Switching browsers sounds larger than it is. Most people are not attached to a rendering engine; they are attached to their bookmarks, passwords, familiar shortcuts, and the confidence that important websites will still work.
Noorani is built on Chromium, so moving from Chrome does not require relearning the web. The practical work is smaller: bring over the data you want, leave behind what you do not, and spend ten minutes setting your privacy and prayer-time preferences.
Switching to Noorani starts with a quick audit
Before exporting anything, look at what your current browser holds. Bookmarks are usually worth bringing. Passwords need more care. Extensions deserve individual judgment. Open tabs often look important but are mostly delayed decisions.
Use the move as a reset. Delete dead bookmarks, close stale tabs, and make a short list of extensions you actually rely on. A lighter starting point gives Noorani less clutter and makes unusual site behavior easier to diagnose.
Bring your bookmarks across
Chrome can export bookmarks as an HTML file. Google documents the process in its official bookmark import and export guide. The file contains folder names and links, not your browsing history.
- Open Chrome’s Bookmark Manager.
- Use the three-dot menu and choose Export bookmarks.
- Save the HTML file somewhere you can find it.
- Open Noorani’s import flow and select that file.
- Check that your folders and bookmark bar arrived as expected.
Keep the export only as long as you need it. It is not highly sensitive in the same way as a password file, but it can still reveal interests, projects, and private services.
Handle passwords deliberately
Passwords are the one part of a browser move that deserves patience. If you already use a dedicated password manager, install its trusted extension in Noorani and sign in through the manager’s normal flow. That is usually cleaner than exporting credentials from Chrome.
If your passwords live only in Google Password Manager, review Google’s Password Manager first. Remove obsolete entries and confirm that recovery information is current before migrating.
A password export is normally a readable CSV file. Anyone who obtains it can read the credentials inside. Perform the transfer on your own computer, import it immediately, verify a few accounts, then delete the CSV and empty the recycle bin. Do not email it to yourself or leave it in a shared cloud folder.
Reinstall extensions one by one
Because Noorani uses Chromium, many familiar extensions can work. Compatibility, however, is not the same as trust. Extensions may read page contents, change sites, inspect browsing activity, or connect to external services depending on their permissions.
Install only the tools you still need. Start with a password manager or essential work extension, then add others gradually. If a site breaks, the most recently added extension becomes an obvious place to investigate.
Privacy extensions can also overlap with built-in tracker blocking. More blockers do not always mean more privacy; sometimes they add complexity or make the browser more distinctive. Our article on browser fingerprinting explains that trade-off.
Set your Noorani essentials
Choose the right prayer-time method
Select your location and the calculation method used by your local community. Noorani supports Karachi, ISNA, Muslim World League, Umm al-Qura, Egyptian General Authority, and Kuwait methods. Small differences between methods are expected.
The schedule is calculated locally rather than fetched from a remote prayer-time account. You can read how that works in our explanation of on-device prayer-time calculations.
Check Qibla and Hijri settings
Confirm the Qibla indicator and Hijri date against sources you already trust. The goal is not to create more configuration work. It is to make sure the browser reflects your location and established practice before those details become part of your routine.
Review content filtering
Noorani’s content filtering is opt-in and offers three sensitivity levels. Begin with the least restrictive setting that meets your needs, then adjust after ordinary browsing. A useful filter should support intention without making routine websites unpredictable.
Test the sites that matter
Do not judge a browser move by opening five news sites. Test the services where failure would be costly: banking, work, university, government portals, video calls, and any site that uses hardware security keys or unusual sign-in flows.
Chromium compatibility gives Noorani a strong baseline. Our engineering note on why Noorani chose Chromium explains the reasoning. Still, extensions, strict privacy settings, and site-specific assumptions can affect behavior.
Keep Chrome installed for a short transition period if your work depends on a specialized tool. That is not failure. A calm migration is better than forcing every workflow to move in one afternoon.
A cleaner browser is the real benefit
The best browser migration is not a perfect clone of the old setup. It is a chance to decide which data, habits, and tools deserve to follow you.
Bring the essentials. Test important sites. Keep password handling careful. Then let Noorani begin as a quieter space rather than another copy of the browser you were trying to leave.
Browse with more intention
Noorani brings prayer times, Qibla, tracker blocking, and privacy into one calm desktop browser built for how Muslims live online.
